Dolores June (Forrest) Gallagher

On January 9, 2026, Dolores June Forrest Gallagher passed away. She was 93 years old.

Born on May 14, 1932 in Wilmington, Delaware, she was the daughter of Joseph Forrest and Sarah Forrest (nee Ford) and was the youngest of six children.

A graduate of Wilmington High School she went to work for the original Wilmington Sears Store on N. Market St.

She married Frank Ewing of New Jersey in 1952 and in 1954 accompanied him to Morocco as his active duty station for the US Navy. In 1956 they settled in West Chester, Pennsylvania where Frank enrolled in school to obtain a degree in Teaching. After that goal was accomplished they found themselves raising a family in the Baltimore area. They had two boys, Curtis and Craig, and a girl, Lauren.

June moved back to Claymont, Delaware as a single woman in 1978. She found employment with KTD Insurance Company and remained with them for 19 years, retiring in May of 1997. She met Gerry Gallagher at a Parents without Partners dance in December of 1982. They merged households two years later in 1984. Between them they had 6 children, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

Gerry retired in 1992. They both loved square dancing and loved to travel and did lots of that, especially after June retired. June and Gerry finally married in 2012. Sadly, Gerry passed away in 2014.

June died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Saturday, January 24 from 10:00 – 11:00AM, with funeral services immediately following.  Interment will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Thursday, January 29.
