David H. Willerton, Jr., age 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026 at his home in Jacksonville, FL.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware, on July 5, 1948, David was the son of the late David H. Willerton, Sr. and Myrtle E. (Ainsworth) Willerton. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School with the Class of 1966 and later enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country.
Following his military service, David worked for Amtrak spending the majority of his career in the railroad industry.
David enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and faithfully followed his team throughout the seasons. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time away with family. Above all, he cherished time with his children and grandchildren, who brought him great pride and happiness.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Willerton of Jacksonville, Florida; his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Francis Pedicone of Jacksonville, Florida; his son and daughter-in-law, David H. Willerton III and Mary Beth Willerton of Wilmington, Delaware; his granddaughters, Nicole Collins and Grace Willerton of Wilmington, Delaware; and his grandson, James Collins of Jacksonville, Florida.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720.
