David L. Smith, Sr.

David L. Smith, Sr. “Bud”, age 92 of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2025.

Dave was born in Orange, NJ, son of the late Mildred (Martin) and J. Ryan Smith, and was a graduate of the University of Maryland, where he played baseball. He also served honorably in the US Army. Dave enjoyed a long and successful career as a product analyst with the DuPont Company.

He enjoyed playing tennis, and was a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. Dave was also a longtime member of St. John the Beloved Parish; and taught religious education classes for many years.

Dave is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Marie” (Aldarelli) Smith; his children, Kelly Pratzner (Jim), Marti Kulesza (Ed); his grandchildren, Shawn and Craig Pratzner, and Haley and Eddie Kulesza; his siblings, Gail Knight (Ed), Judy Sanner (Mitch), and Jay Smith; as well as several members of his extended family.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his son, David L. Smith, Jr; and his sister, Shirley Bitting.

Services for Dave will be held privately with his family at All Saints Cemetery.
