Daniel S. Miller, age 74, of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 4, 2025. He was born in Lewes, DE, son of the late Daniel and Charlotte (Smith) Miller.
Dan’s career spanned multiple roles across diverse industries. He was a graduate of St. Francis Hospital Nursing School and began his professional life in nursing. He later worked with a top fuel drag-racing team, followed by a successful pursuit of his passion for photography—earning several awards, making the cover of Time magazine, and a nomination for a Pulitzer Prize. Dan also ventured into sales, holding positions with Radio Shack and ViewSonic, before returning to nursing and establishing his own practice.
Outside of work, Dan thoroughly enjoyed trap shooting with his sons, earning numerous awards and titles over the years. He also coached the Delaware Scholastic Trap Shooting Team, sharing his expertise and enthusiasm with young marksmen across the state. He enjoyed surf fishing and stargazing at night—once even spotting Venus. He was rarely seen without his camera in hand and a smile that made everyone feel at ease. Known for steering clear of butter and cheese, Dan’s humor and warmth made every gathering brighter. A lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan, he found joy in simple moments and time spent outdoors.
Dan is survived by his wife, Zhen “Jenny” (Zhang) Miller; his sons, Erik (Rebecca), William, Rusty, and Jason (Shannon); his grandchildren, Kacey, Kaelynn, Olivianne, Evelyn, and Madison; and his brother, Keith (Kim).
Dan will be remembered for his quick wit, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, beginning at 12:00 p.m. A remembrance service will commence at 1:00 p.m., with interment to follow in Hockessin Friends Cemetery.
