Colin Patrick Flaherty, 66, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 with his daughter, brother and close friend by his side after he fought strongly against his cancer.
Colin was born in Wilmington, DE on June 25, 1955, son of the late John H. and Frances (Klespis) Flaherty. He graduated from Christ our King Grade School, Salesianum High School and attended the University of Delaware and the University of California San Diego.
Colin will be lovingly remembered by his children, David Flaherty and Caitlin Woelfel (Kurt), his siblings John Dennis Flaherty; Karen A. Flaherty and David M. Flaherty (Jayne); his nephews, Kevin G. Flaherty and his wife, Kim; Christian M. Flaherty and his wife, Marisa; Michael V. Flaherty and his wife, Nicole; and his grandchildren Brianna, Jake and Dylan; and nieces and nephews, Devan, Alexis, Sean, Cameron, Giancarlo, Michael, Jack and Julia.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Clare Flaherty; and his brother-in- law, Ed McCarthy (Darlene and Brendan) and his ex-wife Victoria Van Deerlin. Colin was predeceased by his brother, Kevin, who passed away while serving our country in Vietnam; and his sister Patricia.
Colin was a prolific writer on politics, criminal justice, life in general as well as a juggler. In 1974 he worked for 6 months on the James E. Straits show and then moved to San Diego where he launched a lifelong career as a writer and political consultancy.
Colin’s family is particularly thankful for the generosity and kindness shown by his dear friends from the Breck’s Mill Gang; Mark, Mike the Beast, Rev. Bacon, Jeff, Irish Mike, Mike Mc, Glenn, Dallas, The Godfather, Big Willie and Terry as well as the care and kindness of Compassionate Care Hospice and his dedicated friend and nurse, Deirdre, who was with Colin at the end. Colin was, throughout his life, a man of enormous energy, talent and large intentions.
Due to Covid, a public service will be held at a later date.
