Clarence David Shaffer, lovingly known as “Buss,” age 86, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021.
Born in Wilmington in 1935, Clarence was the son of the late Clarence and Nancy D. Shaffer. Clarence attended several institutions to complete his education including Archmere Academy, Wilmington High School, and the University of Delaware.
Clarence went on to work for Wilmington Trust and the Franklin Mint handling various vital roles such as banking, data processing, and information technology systems analysis. He dedicated 25 years of his career to Hercules Inc. Clarence retired as an Administrative Director from Hercules.
In his free time, Buss enjoyed golfing, deep sea fishing, and was a car enthusiast. He was always a dedicated University of Delaware football fan and attended most of their home games throughout the years. He also greatly enjoyed spending time with his wife at their summer home in Ocean View, DE. Clarence also loved English Bulldogs, especially his beloved Maxwell.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Martha A. Shaffer, in 2007. He is survived by his brother, David Shaffer, and his wife, Kathleen, of Berkley, MA; his nephew, David Shaffer Jr. of Pawtucket, RI; his nieces, Amanda Poirier of Cranston, RI and Brigitte Shaffer of Providence, RI; his cousins, Marianne Lansing, Betty Schaat, Georgie Townsend, and Lois Jean Reybott; his longtime friend and neighbor, Dale Nebe; and his dear friends, John Evans and Ralph & Hazel Pryor.
Clarence was laid to rest with his wife, Martha, in the Silverbrook Cemetery in Wilmington, DE.
