Clara Kopecki Obituary

On February 17, 2021, Clara A. Kopecki, of Newark, Delaware passed away peacefully at Somerford House assisted living at the age of 82. Clara was born on September 13, 1938 in Wilmington, Delaware. She graduated from St Elizabeth's High School in 1956 and worked in her fathers pharmacy, Maida pharmacy, while attending high school. She then attended Temple Pharmacy School and graduated in 1960. She married Robert Kopecki in 1964.

She had a very long successful career in pharmacy. Pharmacy was a male dominated profession when her career began. This made her a very strong advocate for equal pay for women. She worked in many different fields of pharmacy including hospital, retail, and institutional pharmacy. During her career, she was an active member of the Delaware Pharmacist Society. She fully retired from the profession at age 72.

Throughout her life, Clara had a passion for travel with her favorite destination being Hawaii. She enjoyed attending the opera with her sisters and Broadway shows. After her retirement, she volunteered by delivering flowers at Christiana Hospital. She had a love for animals as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara Maida, her brother Domenick Maida, and her husband Robert A. Kopecki. She is survived by her daughter Tracey Eppert and her son-in-law Stan Eppert; her son Robert Kopecki and her daughter-in-law Valerie Kopecki; her grandchildren Christian Kopecki and Lucy Eppert; her sisters Mary Maida and Ann Marusa; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to send a special thank you to both the staff of Somerford House assisted living and Heartland Hospice.

A private service for family is being held on March 6th at 11am. This service is being livestreamed publicly on the Newark Baptist Church Facebook page.
