Charlotte V. Morris, age 94, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Newark Manor Nursing Home.
Born in Newark, DE in 1928 to the late Joseph and Mabel (Bailey) Cox, Charlotte was a lifelong Delawarean. She attended Conrad High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1946. After completing her education, she began work for the State of Delaware, first at the Board of Education, then within the Red Clay Consolidated School district as an office clerk at Stanton Central Elementary, Forest Oak Elementary and Stanton Middle School. Charlotte dedicated 30 years to the State of Delaware and she celebrated her retirement in 1989. She enjoyed her years after retirement, traveling, her home at Buttonwood Beach, local theatre productions and enjoying her family. She was also an 80+ year member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church where she helped with the Food Closet, participated in monthly Farnhurst visits to play bingo and helped with the distribution of the church courier.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Lewis Morris, who passed away in April of 2021. Charlotte is survived by her children, Gary Morris (Helen) of Newark, DE and Gail Steele (Randy) of Bear, DE; her grandchildren, Keith Steele (Kathleen) of Wilmington, DE, Shannon Stevens (Kevin) of Bear, DE, Nicholas Morris (Miranda) of Wilmington, DE; and her great grandchildren, Kevin Stevens, Colin and Cole Steele, Lily, McKenna and Nicholas Morris.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 10-11AM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. A funeral service will begin at 11AM. Interment will follow in St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery, 2106 St. James Church Rd., Wilmington, DE.
