Charles G. “Chip” McClane, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away surrounded by love on January 26, 2026. Born on November 17, 1957, in Wilmington, DE, Chip was the son of the late Charles McClane and Margaret (née Eisele) McClane.
Chip was a proud graduate of Brandywine High School, Class of 1975. He went on to build a long and dedicated career as an electronic technician with the United States Postal Service, where he was known for his skill, reliability, and strong work ethic.
A true Philadelphia sports fan, Chip rarely missed a chance to cheer on the Eagles and the Phillies. Go Birds! Outside of sports, he found joy in riding his motorcycle, spending time boating, and tinkering with his many “toys,” especially his collection of tractors. He loved being outdoors, staying busy, and enjoying life on his own terms.
Above all, Chip was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved spouse, Bonni; his children, James (Katie), Michelle (Adam), and Zachary (Melissa); and his cherished grandchildren, Jackson, Lennox, Ayden, Adelynn, Axton, and Cade, who brought him endless pride and happiness. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph (William), William (Robin), and Michael (Michelle), along with his nieces, Skylar and Alexa, his nephews, Jordan and Jesse, many cousins, and numerous friends who will miss him dearly. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 10:00–11:00 AM at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM.
