Charles J. Talkowski, 78, of Hockessin, Delaware peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on September 9, 1946, he was the son of the late John and Joan (Lagowski) Talkowski.
Charlie was a graduate of Villanova University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree, and went on to further his education at Rutgers University, earning his Master’s and Doctorate Degrees, and lastly at Indiana University, where he performed his Post Doctorate studies. He was employed as an organic chemist with the DuPont Company and was responsible for several patents granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He retired from DuPont after 35 years of dedicated service.
Charlie was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, as well as the parish St. Vincent dePaul Society. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Coffee Run Council #6768, which meets at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, Hockessin.
Charlie loved gardening and volunteered at Longwood Gardens for many years. He enjoyed time spent outdoors working in his yard. His greatest joy was being with his three beloved grandchildren, who kept him busy with their many activities.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Mary “Margo” (Derrick) Talkowski; his son, Michael Walls and wife, Danielle; his grandchildren, Grayson, Miles and Everly Walls; his brother, Raymond Talkowski and wife, Karen; his sister, Juanita Kreger and husband, Carl.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Thursday, February 13 from 4:00 - 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin on Friday, February 14 at 10:30AM, immediately followed by interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Ashland.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Charlie may be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Society of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 2503 Centerville Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 or St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707.
