Charles W. Collins, 94, of Hockessin, Delaware passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023. Born in Wilmington on January 29, 1929, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Agnes (Murtha) Collins.
Charles proudly served our country in the United States Army during the post World War II era. He was a 1953 graduate of Pennsylvania Military College, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree, and earned additional credits from the University of Delaware. Charles was a teacher in the Red Clay Consolidated School District for 33 years. He attended St. Mary of the Assumption Church and Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of Ionic Masonic Lodge #31, as well as the Mid County, Newark, and Oak Grove Senior Centers.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Virginia R.; his brother, Robert Collins; his sister, Shirley Reed.
Charles is survived by his children, Charles J. Collins (Carol), Rebecca “Becky” E. Collins, and JoEllen Brackin (Steve); his grandchildren, Charles J. Collins, Geoff Collins (Jennifer), and Erin Covert (Dan); his great granddaughters, Bella Collins and Jillian Covert.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday, March 15 from 9:00 – 10:00AM. A service and military honors will follow at the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear at 11:00AM.
