Catherine S. Jones

Catherine S. Jones, age 86, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5th, 2025 surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on July 24, 1938, Catherine was the daughter of Russell Jones and Helen (Miller) Jones, who instilled in her values of kindness, compassion, and hard work. She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1957, where she laid the foundation for a life that would be filled with love, family, and community.

Throughout her life, Catherine devoted her time and talents to her family and career. Known for her unwavering commitment and dedication, she worked as a bank teller at various local banks and also served as a cafeteria worker at Salesianum School, where she touched the lives of countless students.

Along with both of her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Russel Jones, and her two grandsons, Dennis Murphy and David Lazarczyk.

Catherine is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie & Dennis Murphy; her sons and daughters-in-law, Mark & Jackie Lazarczyk and David & Cathi Lazarczyk; and a vibrant family of grandchildren who adored her: Erica Murphy, Tara Murphy, Nadia Lazarczyk, Zachary Lazarczyk, Tiffany Domizio (Mark), Chad Lazarczyk, Austin Lazarczyk (Autumn), Blake Lazarczyk, and Lance Lazarczyk. In addition, she was the proud grandmother of ten great-grandchildren.

Catherine's passions were many. She found joy in playing Bingo, a favorite pastime that brought her both excitement and community. Catherine loved to travel, with a particular fondness for trips to the beach, where she could soak up the sun and enjoy the beauty of nature. She adored her dogs and they were a constant source of joy in her home. Catherine's warmth, humor, and generosity will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Asbury Ivy Gables and Compassionate Care Hospice for their dedicated and dutiful care of Catherine.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, June 17th, 2025 from 10:30AM-12PM at  the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE. A funeral service will begin at 12PM. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19808.
