Catherine Anne (Valdrini) Censurato

Catherine Anne Censurato lost her long struggle with the Alzheimer’s Disease on Monday, August 1, 2022 with her husband and family at her side.  Born in Wilmington on September 18, 1950 to the late Ermido and Desolina (Paloni) Valdrini, she was a lifelong resident of Hockessin.

She is survived and greatly missed by her husband Mike; sons Michael and Mark; brother Joe Valdrini; daughter-in-law Kim; grandkids Liliana, Alex and Adelyn.

She graduated from the A.I. DuPont School and worked for several years as a secretary prior to marrying.  Shortly thereafter, the newlyweds moved to Greenville, NC due to a DuPont transfer.  They returned to Hockessin in 1977 with their first child and built the house which they still call home.

She devoted her life to the family and raising two boys, making many life-long friends while volunteering in support for her sons’ school and sport activities. When the boys grew older, she started working with the Childfind Program of DE to assess the development of children in the Red Clay school systems.  Again, she made many friends along the way until the disease started taking its toll.

Her greatest joy was to gather with the extended family and friends on holidays, Super Bowl parties, and summer cookouts. There was never a lack of desserts as her sweet tooth was legendary. She also enjoyed gardening, exercise, and baking.

Although the disease cut short plans for vacation travel after her husband’s retirement, over the years the family was able to enjoy many trips to Europe, various parts of the US, and a trip to Singapore.

The family would like to convey a heartfelt thanks to the many people at the Summit and Harbor Chase Senior Living facilities that helped Cathy through her transition. Additionally, a special thanks to Angela and Maureen who greatly improved her quality of life prior to entering the facilities.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Thursday, August 4 from 9:30 – 11:00AM.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM, immediately followed by burial at All Saints Cemetery, Kirkwood Highway.
