Bruce Allen Abbott, age 79, of Newport, DE, departed this life for his next on December 28th, 2025.
Bruce was born in Wilmington, Delaware and was one of many Abbotts whose formative years colored the Marshallton area with childhood fun and mischief. Bruce excelled in multiple sports from junior high to university years. His interest in civics began early as a member of The DeMolay Organization, the Freemasons, and the Knights of the Templar Origin Association. This continued on into joining the Delaware National Guard and California National Guard. As a 3-year, 3-sport Letterman at Dickinson HS in football, baseball and wrestling, he cemented a 1964 wrestling state championship placement in his senior year as well as being scouted by the Phillies.
Bruce continued his success in athletics & academics at Wesley College in Dover, DE from 1963-1965 & earned his Bachelor’s in P.E. at the University of North Dakota - Ellendale in 1968. His time at UND was exciting for his family too with road trips from DE to ND to witness his superlative achievements on the football field & baseball diamond. He was a member of the lettermen club & an MVP in Baseball his senior year.
Upon graduation Bruce spent his summers working and reveling in the late sixties. The summer of ‘68 he worked as an assistant to the photo finish photographer at DE Park sparking his admiration of the horses’ athleticism & natural instincts to compete, of which Bruce greatly identified. The summer of ‘69, found him following the music to attend the iconic Woodstock Music Festival. His teaching career began in ‘68 at Stanton Junior High School, surprising his cousins who were students at the time & admired him for his prize White Wing ‘Vette. Bruce continued his pursuit of higher education at the University of Delaware and the University of California-Santa Barbara.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Marcella B. & Wilmer E. Abbott Jr., and his brother, Wilmer E. Abbott III. He is survived by his daughter, Adrienne Talabisco (Stefan); his son, Warren Abbott; his son, Jacob Abbott; his devoted caregiver and mother of Jacob, Sandy Case; his brother, Bill Abbott and family; and his three grandchildren. Extended family hold dear memories of his wit, wisdom, generous nature coupled with a somewhat ornery disposition & the way he inspired others to excel. We will miss him.
