Audrey was born July 29, 1937, in Williamsburg, NY, but lived in Wilmington since 1960. She came to Wilmington to work at Braunstein’s Department Store as a buyer. It was there that she met her beloved Sonny Boys. They were married for more than 40 years before his death in 2003.
After raising her daughters, Audrey went back to work full time at Bamberger’s, which became Macy’s, and she worked in Public Relations for 14 years. She created Charity Day and enjoyed working on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
After retiring from Macy’s, Audrey turned her talents to fundraising and worked for the Easter Seals for 8 years and then found a home with the Girl Scouts of Chesapeake Bay. She worked there for 19 years, until she was 80 years old, as a Senior Vice President of Development. During her time at the Girl Scouts, Audrey managed two Capital Campaigns and was instrumental in the development and building of the first Platinum Lead Certified Building in Delaware - a STEM Center for the Girl Scouts.
Audrey had a passion for volunteerism and giving back to the community. She held numerous positions at local charities, many times as Committee Chair, including at the Flower Market, Heart Ball and the Delaware Center for Horticulture. In 2001, Audrey joined Rotary and was active for over 20 years. She was a Paul Harris Fellow, served on the board for two years and she chaired various committees. Audrey never said no when asked to do something for the Rotary Club. She also worked for Kind To Kids and was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the organization in June of 2023.
She was also quite active in several political campaigns, frequently hosting fundraisers at her house. Audrey was the ultimate hostess, and her home was always decorated for the holidays. No one was a stranger, and there were countless celebrations and many weddings at her home, many times in her beautiful garden.
She grew up in Glendale, NY, and later lived in Huntington, NY. Audrey attended The Mary Louis Academy of Jamaica Estates, NY, St. John’s College and Hunter College. She started her career at B. Altman’s Department Store.
