Anthony G. Paoli, age 82, of Newport, Delaware peacefully passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025. Born in Wilmington on February 8, 1943, he was a son of the late Guiseppe and Esther (Cataldi) Paoli.
Anthony was a 1961 graduate of H. Fletcher Brown Vocational High School and served in the Delaware Army National Guard. While serving in the National Guard, Anthony began his apprenticeship with the IBEW Local 313 and proudly worked as a union electrician for more than 60 years.
He enjoyed playing baseball, and later managing the Kiddie World Cubs little league baseball team. He and his team won back to back Capitol Trail Little League Championships in 1975 and 1976.
Anthony was immensely proud of his Italian heritage, and even more so of his large, loving family. Some of his best times were reminiscing with his family about the “good old days at 2nd and Lincoln”.
Anthony will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Virginia, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage; his daughter, Deanna (Paoli) Shepherd and son-in-law, Michael Shepherd. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Paoli; his sisters, Mary Ann Catalina and husband, Stephen, Rosemary McBride and husband, Thomas “Benny”; his sisters-in-law, Dolores “Dolly” Paoli and Dolores “Dorie” Paoli; his brother-in-law, Ken Vanderslice; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Anthony was predeceased by his brothers, Dominick Paoli and wife, Lee, Alfred Paoli, Eugene Paoli, Nello Paoli and wife, Ann; his sister, Catherine Sparco and husband, Anthony; his sister-in-law, Nicolette “Nikki” Paoli.
Family and friends are invited to visit at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington on Monday, February 17 from 10:30AM – 12:15PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30PM. Interment will be held at a later date.
