It is with deep sorrow to announce the passing of Annie Teresa Cassidy of Hockessin, Delaware on July 7, 2025. She passed peacefully in her home at the age of eighty-eight surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her family finds peace in knowing that she was called home on her beloved husband’s birthday.
Born in Knockahoney, County Sligo, Ireland, to Michael Joseph Cawley and Anne Neary Cawley, Teresa courageously immigrated to the United States in 1953 at just seventeen years old carrying with her an unwavering faith, fierce resilience, and quiet strength that lasted a lifetime. While living in Philadelphia, she met her late husband, John Cassidy, at an Irish dance. In his words he fell in love at first sight, declaring, “I’m going to marry that girl”; A true testament to her beauty and magnetic charisma. Together, they created a beautiful life. They grew a strong family and built a successful business, leaving behind a legacy of success, unity, and unwavering commitment. Teresa had a passion for life, cherishing everyday blessings, and was a constant source of support for those around her. With her husband and family, she spent summers traveling along the east coast by boat and enjoying the sun at the Delaware beaches. Teresa was a benefactor and volunteer within her local Church and Irish cultural communities, where she especially enjoyed attending ceilis, listening to Irish music, and the company of her friends. Annie Teresa became a US citizen in 1980, an event in her life of which she was most proud. She would tell everyone that “there is no greater country than America!”
If greatness is measured in the number of lives an individual has touched, few could match the lasting influence of Teresa Cassidy. Her greatest achievement and lasting legacy will always be her family.
Teresa is survived by her children and grandchildren: John Cassidy and his children, John, Kaitlyn, her fiancé, Justin, and Owen; Michael Cassidy his wife Lisa, and their children, Michael his wife, Sarah, Shannon, her husband, Luke, and Patrick; Patricia Cassidy and her son, Benjamin; Kevin Cassidy; Maureen Cassidy Vastagh and her husband, Richard, and their children, Victoria and Jacob; Mary Cassidy; Linda Cassidy Durso and her husband, Mario, and their children, Daniel, his fiancée, Lacey, Sarah, and Mario; Robert Cassidy and his son, Aidan. Also, three great-grandchildren: Luke, Beau, and Michael.
Teresa is also survived by two sisters: Linda Gallagher of Tubbercurry, County Sligo, Ireland, and Mary Boland, her husband, Desmond of Roscommon Town, County Roscommon, Ireland; her sister-in law, Vera Cawley; and many nieces and nephews.
Teresa is reunited with her beloved husband of 46 years, John Joseph Cassidy; her siblings, Austin Cawley; Michael Cawley, his wife, Theresa; John Cawley, his wife, Irene; Kathleen Cawley O'Connor, her husband, Jim; Margaret Cawley Daley, her husband, John; Helena Cawley; and brother-in-law, Peter Gallagher.
