Alyce Genner Obituary

Alyce Turney Genner passed away on March 20, 2021 with her son David by her side.

Alyce was born on April 28, 1924, the eldest of three children to John and Lillian (Losse) Turney.  She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1942 and attended Goldey Beacom College.

Alyce was employed by the Wilmington Trust Company from 1942 until her retirement in 1986, having served in various positions within the company, starting as teller in the trust department, then as executive secretary first to WTC president George Bissell, and then to his successor, William Geddes.  Returning to work after maternity, Alyce became a supervisor in commercial banking before accepting a position in Holiday Travel.  Prior to retiring, Alyce returned to the executive suite as an administrative assistant to several senior vice presidents.

A devoted member of St. Catherine of Sienna Church from 1962, Alyce served on the parish council, and was a member of the Alter and Rosary Society.  She especially enjoyed working on the quilts that were donated for auction during St. Catherine’s annual bazaars.

Alyce leaves her son, David Cullin Genner, a brother, John (Ann) Turney of Worton, MD, four nieces, five nephews, and a sister-in-law, Elva Genner.  She was predeceased in 1993 by her husband of 36 years, George H. Genner, Jr., and by her brother, James Turney, in 2012.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Centerville Rd, on March 31th at 11 AM. Per Alyce’s request there will be no viewing and burial will be held privately at All Saints Cemetery following mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Catherine of Sienna Church or to the contributor’s favorite charity.
