Alice J. Gallagher, 87, of Wilmington, Delaware and formerly a longtime resident of Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. Born in Brooklyn on August 8, 1936, she was the only child of the late Denis and Alice (Mulligan) Gallagher.
Alice was employed as a claims processor with New York Life Insurance Company, having retired after 30 years of dedicated service. A fiercely independent woman, she took great pride in caring for her parents until their passing, and relocated to Wilmington in 2000 to be closer to her 1st cousin, Ellen Jane (Kirby) Moore. She and Ellen were more like sisters than cousins, and spent nearly a decade adventuring together.
Alice was a fan of 1950’s “Doo-wop” music and possessed a vast knowledge of the various artists. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and family, with some of her favorite destinations being the Caribbean islands, Hawaii, and Ireland. She also enjoyed time at the Delaware Beaches and cherished her role as Godmother, affectionately known to all as “Aunt Alice”.
Alice was a devoted member Resurrection Parish and had a special devotion to St. Padre Pio and St. Pope John Paul II.
Alice is survived by her Delaware Family: John and Patricia Moore, Kaitlyn Bethany Moore, Julie and Patrick Graden, Elizabeth Graden and Danny Newman, Rory Thomas and Ronan Patrick Newman, Kyle Graden (Sarah Chard) and Victoria Graden.
