Alfred V. Romano, affectionately known as Al to his friends and family, was called to his heavenly home on the 26th of December, 2025, in Newark, DE.
Born on the 7th of August, 1944, Al lived a life marked by selflessness, generosity, and kindness, touching the lives of all who knew him. Al's early years were spent in the halls of Claymont High School, where he graduated with the class of 1962. His commitment to service was evident early on, as he enlisted in the United States Navy shortly after his high school graduation. From 1962 to 1965, Al served his country with honor and distinction, embodying the values of duty and dedication that would remain with him throughout his life.
After his military service, Al returned to his community, where he met and married his beloved wife of 56 years, Diane Romano (née Nice). Together, they built a life founded on love, faith, and mutual respect. Their union was blessed with two sons, Steven, wife Susan, and Todd, wife Alyssa. Al's joy was multiplied with the birth of his granddaughter, Jessica, who became a light in his life.
Al was a devout Christian, living his faith through his actions and his unwavering belief in the goodness of others. He found comfort and strength in his religion.
Immediate family was the bedrock of Al's world. He was survived by his brothers Bart, Vincent, and Ralph Romano, and his sisters Joanne DeGolyer and Joyce Giannini. He was a supportive brother-in-law to Bill Nice, Bernie Duko, and the late Linda Duko and Patrica Nice. Al's love for his predeceased grandson, Daniel, continued throughout his life.
Al's interests were a reflection of his loving nature. He adored spending time with his fur baby, Daisy, who was a constant companion and source of unconditional love. Her presence brought comfort and joy to Al's days, and their bond was a testament to Al's capacity for love. Al enjoyed doing puzzles, collecting model trains and Star Trek memorabilia.
Those who knew Al best would describe him as the epitome of kindness. His generosity knew no bounds, and he often put the needs of others before his own. Al's legacy is one of compassion and altruism, and his memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. Al's life was a journey of love, service, and faith. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the incredible impact he had on our lives. We take solace in the knowledge that he is at peace in the loving embrace of his Creator. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories of Al's gentle spirit and warm heart will remain with us always, guiding us like a beacon of his enduring love.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, January 8th, 2026, at Holy Family Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be held in All Saints Cemetery.
