Alfred L. Colombo, Jr.

Alfred L. Colombo, Jr., known to family and friends as Al, passed away on June 4, 2026, in Wilmington, Delaware, after a long illness. He was 75 years old.

Born on October 19, 1950, in Wilmington, Delaware, Al was the beloved son of Alfred and Ann Colombo. He grew up surrounded by family and carried the values of loyalty, kindness, and quiet strength throughout his life. Those who knew him will remember him as a generous, thoughtful, and kind man whose presence brought comfort and steadiness to others.

Al was a lifelong Wilmington resident and a proud graduate of Salesianum High School. The lessons he learned there, along with the guidance of his family and the community around him, helped shape the person he became. He met life with humility and grace, and he was known for the way he treated others with respect and sincerity. His manner was gentle, his spirit warm, and his concern for others sincere and unwavering.

Family was at the center of Al’s life. He is survived by his sisters, Ann Marie Maggitti, Kathleen Donell, Christina Colombo, and Mary B. Sidell, as well as his brother, Charles V. Colombo. He was preceded in death by his brother Michael P. Colombo. He also leaves behind 16 nieces and nephews and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom were touched by his love, his steady presence, and the example he set through his actions. His family will forever cherish the memories of his kindness, his sense of humor, and the way he made each person feel valued.

Al lived a life marked not by grand display, but by meaningful everyday goodness. He understood the importance of family, friendship, and simple acts of care. He was the kind of man who listened closely, spoke thoughtfully, and gave of himself without hesitation. His generosity was not limited to material things, but extended to his time, his attention, and his compassion. In this way, he left an enduring impression on those fortunate enough to know him.

His life is a reminder of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, who wrote, “To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” By that measure, Al succeeded in every way that truly matters. He made life easier and brighter for those around him, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Though his passing leaves a deep emptiness, Al’s memory will remain a source of comfort and strength. He will be remembered with love for the goodness he showed, the care he gave, and the example he set. His family takes solace in knowing that his long illness has ended and that he is now at peace. The life he lived was one of quiet dignity and enduring love, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
