Agnes Magdalene Machulski, age 94, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2021. Agnes was born on January 21, 1927, in Wilmington, Delaware, the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Uniatowski.
She grew up in Bear, Delaware, and attended St. Hedwig’s School, and then H. Fletcher Brown Vocational High School. She worked as a beautician for Nan’s Beauty Shop for 6 years. Agnes also worked for a time at Rosenbaum’s in Wilmington and at Liszkiewicz’s Grocery Store on Franklin Street. She married Bernard T. in 1947 and her son, Bernard, Jr., was born in 1952.
She took care of the family home on Chestnut Street for many years. She loved her church, St. Hedwig’s, and attended Mass every day. In addition, Agnes enjoyed walking through the neighborhood and socializing. Agnes was always caring for others. While in assisted living, she would help anyone in a wheelchair.
Agnes lost the joys of her life, her husband in 1974 and son in 1979. She continued to support herself working for Christiana Care Hospital for 15 years in the Housekeeping Department.
Agnes was preceded in death by her sister, Anna M. Machulski, and her brothers, Nicholas, Frank, John and Joseph Uniatowski. She is survived by her brother, Edward F. Uniatowski and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend many thanks to Heartland Hospice for their gentle care of Agnes in her last days.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, April 9, 2021, starting at 10:00 AM at St. Hedwig’s Church, 408 S. Harrison St., Wilmington, DE 19805. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
