William T. McGillivray, age 85, of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 1, 2018 with his loving family by his side.
Born in Los Angeles, CA, Bill was the son of the late George and Anne (Muswick) McGillivray. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from the University of Southern California, where he was a member of the Theta Xi Fraternity. After graduating, Bill joined the U.S. Army, where he served with the Military Police assigned to President Eisenhower's detail as well as Arlington National Cemetery.
After his military service, Bill began his 40 year career with Hercules, Inc. ,where he rose through the ranks and was moved several times throughout the country before settling in Delaware. He retired in 2000 as Senior Manager of Mail Services.
Family was the center of Bill's world. He was a devoted husband, who adored his wife whom he lovingly nicknamed his “pepper pot” and “cactus flower”. Bill was a fantastic father and grandfather, and a good provider, who made sure his wife and children had everything they needed. He will be dearly missed for his amazing sense of humor, his knack for story-telling, as well as all of his “Dad-isms”.
In his leisure time, Bill was a sports fan and a Civil War buff. He also loved animals.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mildred R. “Millie” (Conrad) McGillivray; his daughters, Susanne Gerren and her husband Rick of Lincoln University, PA, Joanne Talmo and her husband Mark of Newark, DE, and Pamela Kempista and her husband Kevin of Newark, DE; his grandchildren, Justin Apostolico of Lincoln University, PA, Kevin Apostolico of Manayunk, PA and Taylor Talmo of Newark, DE; and his great-grandchildren, Jacob Ferr of Baltimore, MD and Adriana Apostolico of Lincoln University, PA. He was predeceased by his parents and his oldest daughter, Ann McGillivray.
Family and friends may visit from 5 to 6 PM on Friday, November 16 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, and a church service will begin at 6PM. Interment will be private.
