Theodore Baumeister of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the age of 92.
Born in New York City on February 1, 1926, Ted was the son of Theodore Baumeister, Jr. and Margaret Kilpatrick Baumeister. A graduate of Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, VA, Ted served with Battery B, 115th Field Artillery Battalion of the US Army in Europe during WWII. He received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Yale University and a Master’s degree from New York University.
Beginning as a mechanical engineer, Ted worked his entire career for E.I. duPont de Nemours & Company, retiring in 1985 as a consultant for the Information Systems Department in Wilmington. He was also co-editor of Marks’ Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers.
Active throughout his life, Ted enjoyed hiking in the woods, biking, traveling, ice dancing with his wife, model railroading, toy soldiers, computers, studying German, and reading. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, ASME, The Skating Club of Wilmington, and the Delaware Saengerbund & Library Association.
Ted is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha C. Baumeister of Newark, DE; sister, Mary B. Baumeister of Black Mountain, NC; his five children, Theodore Baumeister IV (Tina) of Sanford, NC, Ashley C. Cockerill (Bill) of The Colony, TX, John T. Baumeister (Patty) of Downington, PA, Norma B. Reynolds (John) of Charleston, SC, and George F. ‘Fritz’ Baumeister of Wilmington, DE; four grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was pre-deceased by his parents and brother, Heard K. Baumeister.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 1 at 11:00AM at St. Thomas Episcopal Parish, 276 S. College Ave., Newark, DE 19711.
