August 11, 1924 ~ May 2, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Ruth Seward Taylor, 92, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 2nd, 2017 while surrounded by her family. She was born on August 11, 1924, the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Walter Seward whom she adored. On August 5, 1942, she married William E. Taylor, Sr., who predeceased her in 1991. She was also predeceased by her older brother, Walt of FL.

Ruth was a graduate of A.I. duPont High School. After raising her family she worked for New Castle County as a School Crossing Guard for 21 years retiring in 1994. Ruth was also a dedicated volunteer for her church’s community thrift store. She enjoyed our family gatherings, times at the beach and babysitting her many grandchildren. Ruth was a kind and gentle woman who provided a loving and caring home for her family.

Ruth is survived by her four sons, Bill (Mildred), Bruce (Theresa), Glenn (Dawn) and Ken (Tammy). She was the grandmother of eight grandchildren and the great-grandmother of twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Bob of CA and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a lifelong member of Richardson Park United Methodist Church, 11 N. Maryland Ave., Wilmington, DE 19804, where a visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM on Wednesday, May 10 followed by a service to celebrate her life beginning at 11 AM. Interment will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park. Her entire family and many friends loved her very much and will miss her continuing physical presence. Ruth will remain in our memories forever.

Ruth’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the nurses and aides at Brookdale Hockessin Assisted Living and Seasons Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they provided to our Mother Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother in the last days before she went to be with our Lord and God.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Ruth’s name to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
