Ruth Marie (Cavender) Fouty

Ruth Marie (Cavender) Fouty, aged 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a long illness.

Born and raised in Coopers Creek, WV, Ruth was the daughter of Howard and Delma (Chapman) Cavender. She was a graduate of Elkview High School where she was a majorette and where she met her future husband Roger Allen Fouty. Married in 1955 they enjoyed 63 wonderful years of love and companionship. Their three daughters and their children became the light of her life.

Ruth was a devoted wife and mother who accompanied her husband around the world living in multiple places in the U.S. as well as living overseas in The Netherlands. She enjoyed her travels throughout Europe in earlier years and loved cruising the Caribbean with her family later on. She was an outstanding cook and an avid fisherwoman often outfishing anyone on the boat much to Roger’s dismay. Ultimately there was nothing that she enjoyed more than being surrounded by and spending time with her family.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Roger Fouty, of Avondale, PA; her children Sherry Martinez of Dallas, TX, Terrie Odom and husband Gary of Fairview, NC, and Cindy Wheeler and husband LD of Newark, DE. She was adored by her six grandchildren Richard Stewart and wife Lindsey, Kelly Kennedy and husband Zachary, Ashley Drabick and husband Zachary, Kyle Odom and wife Brooke, Daniel Kemp and wife Sara, and Cassidy Kemp and fiance’ Daniel. She was proud to also have 11 great grandchildren Pippa, Karis, Braxton, Owen, Noelle, Brielle, Andrew, Weston, Barrett, Parker and Pierce. The family will miss her more than they can imagine.

Visitation starts at 1:30 followed by a Celebration of Ruth’s life at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 10th at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. Interment will be private.
