Rose M. Kipp

Rose M. Kipp, of Newark, DE passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the age of 72.  

Rose was born October 22, 1945 in Bronx, NY to the late Thomas and Anne McCann.  Rose was a Hunter College High School graduate, earned her bachelor’s degree at Hunter College and master’s degree from Delaware State University.    Rose’s early career was dedicated to social work including being a group home parent for girls and boys at the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Home (Bronx, NY) and then Co-Executive Director for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Morris County, NJ. 

Following a move to Delaware, Rose continued her career at Delaware Technical Community College where she served as Chair of Workforce Training prior to retirement.    In retirement, her dedication to education continued as she joined the Delaware Center for Distance Adult Learning (DCDAL) in the role of ABE Coordinator/GED Instructor.    Rose was named the 2011 Delaware Adult Educator of the Year by the DE Association for Adult & Community Education (DAACE).  Rose’s past accomplishments included serving as the Vice-President of Denville, NJ’s Board of Education and as a DAACE board member.

Rose enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.   She was an avid reader, shopper, and enjoyed the New York Times crossword puzzles.

Rose is survived by her husband of 51 years, Alan J. Kipp of Newark, DE; daughters, Elizabeth Kipp Stonebraker (Thomas) of Newark; Catherine Rose Kipp of Newark; brother, Daniel McCann (Brenda) of South Salem, NY; grandchildren, Angelina Stonebraker and Thomas Stonebraker III; her niece, nephews and close friends.  She was preceded in death by sisters, Judith Matten and Elizabeth Murphy; brother-in-law, Richard Kipp; son-in-law. Patrick Stauffer.

A visitation will be held Thursday, June 21st from 5-7 pm at the Doherty Funeral Home. 3200 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE where a funeral service will be held Friday, June 22nd at 10 am.
