Robert E. Jones, Sr., 86, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Wilmington on August 22, 1931, son of the late John and Mabel (Zebley) Jones.   He was a graduate of P.S. duPont High School, where he held the position of pitcher on the school baseball team.  After high school, he enlisted in the US Army and proudly served our country during the Korean War.  Bob was trained as an apprentice and once he completed his training, was employed as a sheet metal worker with Local 19.  He later started his own air balancing business, Jones Service Company.

Bob became a Catholic as a young adult and was a longtime, dedicated member of Corpus Christi Parish, where he served in many volunteer positions and as a Eucharistic Minister.  He also enjoyed memberships with the New Castle County Irish Society and the Defiance Club.  A golf enthusiast, he also enjoyed bowling, crabbing in Rock Hall, Maryland, and was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan.  One of his favorite places was spending time at Lewes Beach, Delaware, and he was proud to have been able to visit Ireland as he loved to listen to Irish music at O'Friel's and more recently at Mulrooney's Irish Pub.  He was a selfless father in every respect, putting the needs of his children before all else.  In younger years, Bob served as a life guard at Canby pool and took great joy in coaching each of his sons in baseball over many years.    His greatest pleasure was being with his family, especially his grandchildren.  Rarely did he miss an event or game.

His beloved wife of 50 years, Jane (Kienle) Jones, passed away on September 8, 2005.  Sadly, Bob was also predeceased by his children, Daniel G. Sr. and Kathleen.

Bob will be dearly missed by his children, Robert E. Jr. and wife, Debbie, Timothy J. Sr. and wife, Sandy, Stephen J. and fiancée, Elaina, Mary Gant and husband, Howard; his daughter-in-law, Deanna; his grandchildren, Timothy Jr. (Erica), Katie, Laurel (Ty), Robert III (Kyle), Clayton, Rebecca, Daniel Jr., Abigayle and Wesley; his great grandchildren, Jaliyah and Liam.

Bob was predeceased by his siblings, Jack, Ruth, Sue, Dorothy, Jean and Patricia.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation at Corpus Christi Church, Elsmere on Tuesday, January 2 from 5:00-7:00PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at church on Wednesday, January 3 at 10:00AM, followed by interment in All Saints Cemetery.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at The Summit in Hockessin and Seasons Hospice for the wonderful care provided to our Dad.
