Robert P. DiEmedio

Robert P. DiEmedio, age 76, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Born in Wilmington, Bob was the son of the late Alfred and Nancy (Leoni) DiEmedio. For 37 years, he was a material handler with Forbes Steel and Wire Company. After retiring, Bob worked at Creative Home Solutions in Elsmere for several years.

In earlier years, Bob enjoyed deer and duck hunting, as well as fishing and fishing and crabbing with his sons. He was a perfectionist and master craftsman, who enjoyed tinkering in the garage and fixing things around the house.

Bob will be remembered for his love of his family. His happiest times were spending time with his family and siblings, especially for Sunday dinner. Bob was a “homebody”, who loved to be home spending time with his family and watching western movies. He also enjoyed day trips, especially to Lancaster, PA.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sandra M. (Malinowski) DiEmedio; his sons, Robert P. DiEmedio, Jr. (Sharon) and Anthony DiEmedio; his daughters, Diane M. Schulze (Lutz) and Sandra Mensinger (Michael); his grandchildren, Elias, Antonio, Rachel, Alyson, Rebecca, and Matthew; his brothers, Joseph and Valentino DiEmedio; and his sisters, Ann “Muffy” Craner, Marie Strohmaier ,Joanne Tweed and Janet Mombro,. He was predeceased by his parents; his grandson, Christopher Schulze; his brothers, Dominick, Louis and Thomas DiEmedio; and his sister, Dolores Kowalczyk.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bob’s sister, Janet, and his niece, Dana, for their care, compassion and assistance to Bob and the entire family during his illness.

Family and friends may visit on Monday, January 15 from 5 to 7 PM at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 16 at 11:00 AM in Corpus Christi Church, 905 New Rd., Wilmington, DE 19805. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics, 619 S. College Ave., Newark, DE 19716, a special charity to Bob as his late grandson, Christopher, was a participant for many years, or Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Dr., Wilmington, DE 19804.
