Richard A. Holland

Richard A. Holland, Age 67, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, December 28, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones. 

He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents, James & Catherine Holland, and his brother, David Holland.  He is survived by his wife, Moira Dhea Holland, his daughters Dawn Grabowski (Mike), Lori Holland (Charlie), Megan MacIntosh (Jason), Christina Leal (Robert), & Kathleen Cousins (Jarrod); his grandchildren, Austin, Chelsey (Brett), Erin, Emmaline, Kaden, Jack, Gabriel, & Lydia; his great-grandsons, Connor & Owen, hiis Aunt Patsy Nashlenas (Frank), his ex-wife, Patrcia Holland and his faithful dogs.

Rich retired after 36 years with General Motors.  He was a life-time member of Aetna Fire Co. (Station 8).  Aetna was his great passion, and he was definitely devoted to his volunteer work for them.  In his younger years, he started out as an EMT.  Later, he worked in maintaining the fire hall, setting up for various events, working in the kitchen, tending bar, and his favorite -- cutting grass on the riding lawn mower!  In his older years, he became a fire policeman making runs and protecting the first responders.  He was gruff on the outside but a big softie on the inside.  He was always there for his family, friends, and neighbors.  If you asked him a favor, he was there for you.  There is certainly a place for him in heaven.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 11-1 pm at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington DE 19808 where a service will follow at 1 pm.  A luncheon will be held immediately after for family and friends at Aetna Fire Hall, 400 Ogletown Rd, Newark, DE 19711.
