Richard C. Powell, age 64, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2018, after a brief battle with cancer.
Rick was born and raised in Wilmington, son of Lena “Lee” (DeShong) Powell and the late H. Clarke Powell. He was a prominent leader of the Local UAW and proudly spent the majority of his career serving at the General Motors plant.
He was a proficient craftsman and took great pride in various construction and repair projects. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and always enjoyed spending time at the beach. Rick also had a great appreciation for the arts, literature, theater and his own refined sense of style. He was also very generous with his time – often volunteering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity. Above all else, Rick cherished spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
Rick is survived by his daughter, Nicole Pierce and her husband, Andrew; his beloved granddaughters, Giada and Antonia; his mother, Lee; his additional caregivers, former wife, Mary Ann Powell and his step-daughter, Jordyn Holly; his dear friends, Joe and Beth Jeker; and a host of extended family, work colleagues, and friends.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hiram and Mary Powell, and Thomas and Claonia DeShong.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Richardson Park United Methodist Church, 11 N. Maryland Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19804, where family and friends may visit beginning at 9:30am. Interment will be private.
