Richard P. McCracken, age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 5, 2019.
He was born in Wilmington, son of the late Samuel and Mary (Solka) McCracken. He was a graduate of Brown Vocational Technical High School and served honorably in the US Army. He went on to enjoy a successful career as a research assistant with the DuPont Company.
Richard was a very outgoing person, who never met a stranger, and always had a story to tell. He was kind, non-judgmental, and always looked for the good in people. He enjoyed eating out, and getting together with his DuPont buddies. He loved spending time with his family, especially in Fenwick Island, where he enjoyed the beach, boating and fishing. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Doris (Enright) McCracken; his children, Lauren Nemes (George), Scott McCracken (Tracey) and Gary McCracken (Leisa); his grandchildren, Taylor, Mackenzie, Gregory, Sean and Andrew; and his sister, Dorothy Doody (Mack, deceased).
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 from 6:00 – 8:00pm on Thursday, January 10, 2019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
