Richard Herzig, Jr. Obituary

Richard C. Herzig Jr. (Dick), age 77 of Middletown, Delaware, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 17, 1940, Richard was the son of the late Richard C. Herzig and Ruth Herzig.  He was a graduate of Father Judge High School class of 1958.  Richard was an Offset Printer by trade and began his career with W.T. Peck.  He later went to work at G&R Packaging as a partner until leaving in 1980 to form a new company, ERH Die Cutting.  For many years, Richard also enjoyed working part-time at Longshore Lanes.

Richard will be remembered as a devoted husband and father who treasured the time spent with his family.  He was an easy going, kind man known for his quick wit and his great personality.  Richard enjoyed keeping meticulous records of his life through journals and ledgers and was the picture-taker extraordinaire at all of the family functions.  Richard enjoyed all sports but was especially fond of playing golf and enjoyed sharing the funny stories he had from his rounds at Frog Rock Golf and Country Club.  Richard was a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan.  He was rarely ever seen without his signature Eagles baseball cap which he happily replaced with a Super Bowl Champion version when the Eagles won the Super Bowl.  Richard also enjoyed playing cards and met the love of his life Lorene while playing a game of Pinochle at the Newark Senior Center.

Richard is survived by his loving wife A. Lorene Herzig, son Steven Herzig, daughter Karen Kunda (Adam), grandson Ryan Hannah, stepchildren Donald Williams (Patti), Janice Naumann (Len), Philip Williams and Pamela Lawton, his brother Robert Herzig (Linda), 12 step grandchildren, 18 step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews that were a very important part of his life.

Richard was preceded in death by his sister Ruth Ann Gessley, stepson Gary Williams (Peggy), stepdaughter Judy Williams, nephew Gregg Herzig and great nephew Ricky Lannetti.

Family and friends are invited to attend the service at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 3135 Summit Bridge Road, Bear, Delaware 19701 on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 10:30AM.  A celebration of Richard’s life will be held immediately after at the Schaefer’s Canal House, 208 Bank Street, Chesapeake City, Maryland 21915 from 12:00-2:00PM.
