Michael Andrzejewski Obituary

Michael J. Andrzejewski, also known professionally as Mike Sommers, age 57, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 with his loving family by his side.

Born in Rogers City, Michigan, Mike is the son of Jacqueline (Miller) and the late Eugene Andrzejewski. He was a graduate of Cheboygan High School Class of 1980 and attended Central Michigan University.

For over 40 years, Mike was a radio personality, program director and consultant for many radio stations all over the country including Michigan, Minnesota, Louisville, Virginia Beach, Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Delaware. Some of the many stations he could be heard on included Z104 Virginia Beach, WPNT The Point-Chicago, BenFM Philadelphia, WSTW, Cool 101.3, Eagle 97.7 and WJBR, Delaware. Most recently, Mike was sharing his love for programming and mentoring talent as a consultant for many radio stations.

In 2009 Mike took one of his other loves, his signature salsa, and he and his family created the Freakin’ Fresh Salsa company, which they wholesale to grocery retailers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

With his distinctive voice, Mike was the announcer every Saturday night at the Airport Speedway, as well as for the Wilmington Christian School basketball games. He also coached girls’ volleyball at Wilmington Christian School. Mike also enjoyed playing volleyball on Sunday nights and hitting Stanley’s Tavern afterward with his teammates.

There was nothing more important to Mike than his family. He treasured their annual family vacations together, which included Raystown Lake, North Captiva, Myrtle Beach and a Disney Cruise. Mike always included his family in everything he did from daily chores to family fun. He will never be forgotten for his many “Dad” jokes, where he would laugh until he cried before he could even get the punch line out. He was a doting “Pops”, who was equally just a big kid who wanted to show his grandkids how to have fun. July 4th spent in Riverton, NJ with the Porch People and a “Box of Fun” was his favorite holiday!

As a radio personality, music was Mike’s life. Few people could beat him at a game of music trivia! At Christmas, Mike’s family and friends received a Christmas music mix tape, with a special recorded family message, instead of an annual Christmas card.

Mike will be remembered for his great sense of humor and the ability to talk to anyone and make him or her feel important. He was a guy who truly felt comfortable in his own skin.

In his leisure time, Mike loved to go four-wheeling and snowmobiling. On Saturday mornings, he could be found outside doing his yardwork or tending to his vegetable garden with his grandchildren. He was quite the handyman and in earlier years had helped his Dad and brother build their family home. Mike was also mechanically inclined, as well, and loved tinkering with his toys including his truck, four-wheelers and snowmobile. Mike enjoyed playing the guitar, which he played in his church’s band. He never forgot his Michigan roots and was a huge Michigan fan.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Cecilia (Pippel) Andrzejewski; his sons, Shawn Boesen and Joshua Boesen, daughter-in-law Julie (Venuto), his daughter, Corrin Andrzejewski; his grandchildren, Savannah and Bentley Boesen; his brothers, Scott Andrzejewski (Wendy) and Paul Andrzejewski; many nieces and nephews; as well as his granddog, Millie.
