Martin Joseph Mulrooney, III

Martin Joseph Mulrooney III, age 87, recently of Glen Mills, PA, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

Marty was born and raised in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Martin J. and Ethel (Mahler) Mulrooney, Jr., and was a graduate of St. Elizabeth High School. Marty was an electrician by trade and a proud 66-year member of the IBEW Local 313. He was also director emeritus of the EWOD Federal Credit Union. He truly loved his career and enjoyed going to work each and every day.

He and his family enjoyed trips to the beach, whether to Wildwood or later to their “Happy Days” trailer in Fenwick Island. He took pride in maintaining his home and in learning about his Irish heritage.  He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and pop-pop, and for his great sense of humor.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by both his first wife, Jeanne Orga in 1960, and later his second wife, Patricia “Patsy” Cook in 2003; his daughter, Debra Vickers; his grandson, Christopher McClafferty (Mailen); his sister, Mary Campbell (Donald, deceased); and brother, Paul Mulrooney (Lois).

Left to cherish his memory are: his children, Jeanne McClafferty (Paul), Eileen Leach (Phil), Michael Mulrooney (Sue), Margaret M. Mulrooney (Mark Hermes), and Nora K. Mulrooney; his grandchildren, Michelle McClafferty (Brian Lofink), Emily Leach, Jacob Vickers, Mark, Shannon and Sean Mulrooney, Henry Mark Hermes, and Mary Eleanor Mulrooney Hermes; his great-grandson, Alex Lombardo McClafferty; his sister, Barbara Cresci (Joseph); his brother, David Mulrooney (Sharon, deceased); and a host of nieces, nephews, and members of his extended family.

The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to the staff at Maris Grove and Rose Court and Home Instead, in particular, Michael and Allan, and all who provided support and friendship to Marty and his family.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday, September 10, 2018 at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
