Leon R. Sokola

Leon R. Sokola passed away at the age of 62, surrounded by family, on Monday, May 21, 2018.

Born in Pottsville, PA on July 30, 1955, Leon was very involved with the Boy Scouts in his youth, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.  He was a graduate of the University of Delaware, earning Bachelor Degrees in both English and Fine Arts. For a time, Leon worked as a freelance journalist for several publications in the area, but his real passion was painting, and to a lesser extent, photography. Leon used his painting skills to translate his inspiration into his artwork.  As his eyesight faded, Leon became a renowned blind artist and was nationally recognized for his talented, Impressionist artwork. 

Leon was an avid music fan and enjoyed listening to a variety of genres.  He was also a proficient trumpet player and a drummer.  For many years, he was a member of St. John the Beloved Parish.

Leon is survived by his father, Leonard R. Sokola and wife Noreen; his brothers, John Bizjak, William Bizjak and wife Beverly, Larry Sokola and wife Debbie; his nieces, Michelle and Lauren; his nephews, John Jr. and Robert; four grand nieces and one grand nephew, and by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Leon was predeceased by his mother, Mary Ann Sokola; and by his sister, Darlene Sokola.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Brandywine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for all the excellent care they provided for Leon over the past seven years.

Friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, May 25 from 9:30-11:00AM.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM, followed by interment in All Saints Cemetery.
