JoAnn Marie Woolard, 75 years of age, passed away at Christiana Hospital, surrounded by loved ones, on November 6, 2018. JoAnn was born on September 7, 1943, in Wilmington, DE, the daughter of the late William McGough and Ann L. (Wilde).
After graduating Wilmington High School, she married her high school sweetheart, James Woolard and moved to Japan for two years, where James was stationed for the U.S. Army. JoAnn held many administrative positions with Bank of Delaware, Taylor Davis Corporation, and joined her husband in the family’s property management company.
JoAnn was an avid University of Delaware Football fan. Didn’t matter where they played, she was there cheering them on. She also enjoyed going to the Elks Lodge #2281 on Friday nights with her husband, to play “You Pick Five” and chat with friends. During the summer season, she would play shuffleboard at Pulaski Legion. JoAnn enjoyed regular trips to Wildwood and Virginia Beach with her family. She was always enjoying the ocean. JoAnn’s favorite thing to do was to dance. She knew how to cut loose and bring people out to dance even if they didn’t want to. She was always the life of the party and brightened every room she entered. She was the most loving daughter, sister, wife, mom and grandmother her family could have ever hoped for. Joann loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
JoAnn will be dearly missed by her husband of 57 years, James; son, Daniel; daughter, Kasey O’Connor (Robert); sisters, Janice Carson, Marie Swan, Rosemary Burkins (Larry), and Christine Czerwinski (Nick); her many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. The lights of JoAnn’s life were her grandchildren, Nicholas and Jayden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 9:00am. Interment will follow in the family plot at Gracelawn Memorial Park. All family and friends are welcome to attend a reception at Elks Lodge #2281 immediately following the interment.
