James Patrick McGrellis, 76, of Elkton, MD died January 2, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Jimmy grew up in Mt. Cuba with 4 brothers and 4 sisters. He was a graduate of St. Joe’s on the Brandywine School Class of 1955. Jimmy was drafted into the Army in December of 1963 and was stationed in Panama. He received an Honorable discharge in 1965. Jimmy was a retired truck driver. He had such a passion for music and would love to perform a melody of his hits for any one. Jimmy will be remembered for his great sense of humor, strong hand shake and caring and generous heart. He loved his garden in the summer and his woodstove in the winter.
Jimmy was the son of the late John J. McGrellis, Jr. and Mary E. Handlin. He was also preceded in death by his sister and best friend Janet Quesenberry and younger brother Harry McGrellis. He is survived by his long-time dedicated companion Peggy Wilkins; daughters Lisa Kotash, Lora Leonard and her husband Francis M.; step sons Richard and Marty Rodriquez; 4 Grandchildren Joseph Emory, James Hall, Megan Kotash and Sabrina Allen and 2 Great Grandsons Joseph and Rhys Emory; 6 brothers and sisters, John J. McGrellis III, Andrew McGrellis, Joseph McGrellis, Margaret Craig, Alice Stump and Mary Jane McCann and many family and friends.
The family would like to thank the amazing ICU staff at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for their compassion and care they provided during this most difficult time.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 10 at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Rd., Greenville, DE 19807, where family and friends may visit beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
