Howard W. Eldridge

Howard W. Eldridge, age 75, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 3, 2018.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Howard was the son of the late Howard R. and Frances B. (Roussis) Eldridge. He was a graduate of the Class of 1961 at Mastbaum Vocational Technical High School in the Frankford section of Philadelphia. Before retiring in 2009, Howard was a manager at Elmer Schultz, Inc. for 33 years.

Howard will be remembered for his love and devotion of his family. He was a doting “Grampie” to his grandchildren, whom he loved spending time with. Howard was an easy going person with a cool and calm demeanor. He loved celebrating the holidays with his family, especially for their annual Easter and New Year’s Day celebrations. Some of Howard’s favorite times were spent traveling to visit family.

In his leisure time, Howard was a talented woodworker and craftsman, who could be found spending his time in his woodworking shop. In his workshop, he created amazing gifts, puzzles and wooden treasures as gifts for his family. Howard also enjoyed gardening and at one time had an impressive vegetable garden. He was known for his sweet tooth and loved all types of candy. Howard watched all of the local sports teams, especially the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers.

Howard is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilynn J. (Luberecki) Eldridge; his children, Eliott Eldridge and his wife, Penny, Emilie V. Bakey, Evan A. Eldridge and his wife, Sharon, and Eli K. Eldridge and his wife, Jill; his grandchildren, Rose, Hannah, Trevor, and Amanda; his sister, Frances B. Plaggemars and her husband, David; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends may visit from 10 to 11 AM on Friday, September 7 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a Celebration of Howard’s Life will begin at 11 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Dr., Wilmington, DE 19804.
