Gloria York Oosterom

Gloria York Oosterom, 82, of West Grove, PA and formerly of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, with her loving family at her side. 
She was born in White Plains, NY, daughter of the late James and Helen (Sayre) York. Gloria graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in 1956 and shortly thereafter, married Eugene Oosterom. They moved to Delaware and started their family. In 1978, she graduated from the University of Delaware with her Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Gloria was a member of the Visiting Nurses Association and eventually worked for the State of Delaware’s Public Health Department, retiring in 2000. 
Gloria and Eugene were active members of Resurrection Parish, where she served as a lector for several years. They were also founding members of Skyline Swim Club; were active at the Academy of Lifelong Learning and were fans of the Resident Ensemble Players – both at the University of Delaware. Gloria and Eugene were also very well-traveled, taking trips to every continent besides South America and Antarctica, and also various locations throughout the continental United States. Gloria enjoyed annual family trips to Dewey Beach, was an avid reader, and was an ardent supporter of her grandsons with their sporting events and activities. 
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Eugene Oosterom; her children, Susan Ross (David), Bill Oosterom (Donna), Beth Oosterom Kanyock (Steve) and Michael Oosterom (Zachary); her grandsons, Mike and Ben Ross, and Max and Arie Oosterom; her siblings, James York and Ruth Bott (Bob); her step-granddaughter, Jennifer Lemieux (Steve); and step-great-grandson, Oliver Lemieux; as well as several nieces, nephews, and members of her extended family. 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit from 9:45am – 10:45am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gloria’s memory can be made to Resurrection Parish.
