George A. Ward, Jr., 82, of Landenberg, PA peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.
George was born in Chicago, IL on February 17, 1936, son of the late George and Marie (Perfect) Ward. He was a graduate of Northwestern University, where he earned his Ph.D, and was employed as a research director with Hercules, having retired in 1996 after 36 years of dedicated service. A faithful Catholic, George was a former member of St. John the Beloved Parish, and was a founding member of Parish of the Resurrection, where he served as a lector and a member of the monthly Emmanuel Dining Room volunteer group. In recognition of his devotion to the Church, George was honored by receiving the Diocese of Wilmington Medal of Merit from Bishop W. Francis Malooly. He was also a volunteer at the Delaware Aquatic Resources Education Center. In his leisure time, George enjoyed playing tennis and golf.
Sadly, he was predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia Ward, who passed away in 1981.
George will be dearly missed by his wife of 61 years, Judy (Waltman) Ward; his children, Cheryl Landers (Al), Kathleen Owings (Tim), George Ward (Tracy); his grandchildren, Cara (Anthony), Danielle (Field), Julie, Shannon, Katie (Ethan), twins Shane and Patrick; his great grandchildren, Caleb and Aiden.
Friends are invited to the visitation at Parish of the Resurrection, 3000 Videre Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Thursday, January 17 from 10:00-11:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George may be made to Parish of the Resurrection.
