George J. Coyle

George J. Coyle, age 82, of Wilmington, DE passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 with his loving family by his side.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, George was the son of the late Charles A. and Stella J. Coyle. He was a graduate of Smyrna High School Class of 1952. George was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Holland during the end of the Korean Conflict. He was also a fourth degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.

George had an accomplished work career that he began as a field supervisor for Henkels and McCoy. Before retiring in 1993, he was an officer with Corporation Trust Company for 25 years. He was instrumental in creating laws regarding incorporation of companies in Delaware. George also worked for many years for the State of Delaware as the Alcohol Beverage Control Commissioner. For over 15 years, George and his wife, Marilyn, also volunteered at the election polls.

In his spare time, George enjoyed lawn care and gardening, where he created a beautiful landscape all around his home. He was an avid sports fan and loved to watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren at their sporting events, as well as watching all of the Philadelphia teams. He could often be found watching sports or political shows on his numerous TV’s throughout the house at the same time. George enjoyed reading, especially non-fiction and the Farmer’s Almanac.

George was a dedicated family man, who adored his wife and treasured family gatherings and babysitting his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered for being an amazing role model for his family, his wonderful sense of humor, his intelligence and his punctuality.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 57 ½ years, Marilyn E. Coyle; his children, Kathleen M. Bedwell (Chris); Daniel E. Coyle (Deborah); his grandchildren, Christina A. Powell (Donnie), Michael R. Volzone (fiancé, Anh) , Christopher R. Bedwell, Daniel O. (Bethany), Heather N., Dylan E. Coyle and JacqueLynn Bright (Ronald); his great grandchildren, Charles and Olivia Powell, Lily Coyle, Emma Flores, and Ronald and Jackson Bright; his sister, Rachel Schaal (Hank); his brother, Charles Coyle (Joanne); his sister-in-law, Carolyn Brown (Terry); his brother-in-law, David Dorn (Dorothy); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their special thanks to Christina Powell for her loving care and support of her grandfather, George, as well as her tremendous help to the entire family.

Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, August 29 from 10 AM to 12 Noon at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a Celebration of George’s Life will begin at 12 Noon. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
