Florence R. Mason died suddenly in Christiana Hospital, surrounded by her loving family on September 23 after 87 years of a blessed and beautiful life.
Born in Wilmington, DE, Florence was a graduate of Wilmington High School and the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing. After becoming a Registered Nurse, she enlisted with the US Army Nurse Corps and served for several years overseas as a 1st Lieutenant. When she returned home and while working a summer nursing position in Wildwood New Jersey, she met the love of her life, John Mason. In addition to raising a family she continued her nursing career specializing in Geriatrics. She held various Director of Nursing positions, serving many years with the Little Sisters of the Poor – Jeanne Jugan Residence.
Florence was a very devout Catholic; serving as a Eucharistic Minister at various parishes throughout her life. She was very proud of her Polish-American heritage and cherished nothing more than spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved family gatherings that included dining out and playing card games, which she often won.
Florence was preceded in death by her father and mother, Frank and Sophia (Warachowski) Kulesza; her brothers and sister, Frank Kulesza (Stella), Regina “Jean” Tjaden (Orville) and Edward Kulesza (Shirley).
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, John Mason; her children, John Mason Jr. (Joan), David A. Mason, Thomas Mason (Christine), and Cheryl Mason; her grandchildren, Anthony Mason (Tracey), John Mason III, David A. Mason, Jr., Christopher Mason, Tommy Mason and Megan McCole; her sister, Eleanor Davidson (Jack, deceased); and several nieces, nephews and members of her extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be held in All Saints Cemetery.
