Filomena M. (Piluso) Brasure

Filomena M. (Piluso) (Lumb) Brasure, age 92, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 21, 2018.

She was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Gaetano and Genevieve (Cioci) Piluso. In addition to raising her family, she worked several jobs, most notably with Brandywine Valley Caterers, retiring when she was 85 years old, after 50+ years.

Filomena was an excellent cook and would always enjoy large family gatherings, especially around the holidays. She also enjoyed music and dancing and taking road trips around the country. She was a member of the Lions Club in Claymont; Moose Lodge #1578; and the Atterbury VFW Post.

She is survived by her children, Phyllis Hopper (Doug, deceased), Edith Paoletti (Richard), Benjamin Lumb (Julie), and Teresa Snead; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by members of the Brasure family: Bernadette Blevins (Steve), George, Jr. (Grace), Joan Colatriano (Cliff), Catherine Hall, and Juanita Stockard (Ron); as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James B. Lumb, Sr.; her second husband, George R. Brasure, Sr.; her son, James B. Lumb, Jr.; brothers, Nicholas and Frank Piluso; sisters, Cecelia Smith, Julia Netta, Josephine LaRock, Mary King, and Pauline Meadows; and her two grandsons, Stephen Blevins, Jr., and Clifford Colatriano, Jr..

Filomena’s family would like to thank her caregiver, Laurice “Tibby” Gayle, for the exceptional care and compassion, as well as the staff at Seasons Hospice for their care and guidance.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be held in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
