Evelyn K. Dewey “Betty”, of North Star, Delaware, passed away peacefully at Cokesbury Village on August 7th 2017. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

She is predeceased by her husband, Ralph; her sister, Mary Lou Polak; brother-in-law, Roger Polak; and her parents, John and Evelyn Karle. She is survived by her sister, Jane Woodhull (Harold); her children, Jay (Vivian), John (Sue), Kathy Graham (Garry Cogdell), Lawrence (Christy), Andy, Matt (late wife, Suzie) and Lyn Dugger (Bryan); and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and step grandchildren. 

Betty was born in New York City and graduated from Katherine Gibbs.  She went on to work as a secretary, where she met her husband, Ralph M. Dewey, a WWII veteran, and spent 70 years creating memories with him.  She was very generous with her time and volunteered for many organizations including the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels, F.I.S.H., and giving rides to those in need of dialysis.  As an active member of St Mary of the Assumption Parish, she was always willing to help out whether it was stitching ornaments for the Christmas Bazaar or greeting members at the door.  As a Mom, she was always there for her children and even her children’s friends. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor – Jeanne Jugan Residence, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.
