Elizabeth Ellen Galligan Buhrman, lovingly known as Betty and B.B., age 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 12, 2018 with her loving family by her side.
Born in Springfield, IL, Betty was the daughter of the late Francis B. Galligan and Lena Mae (Martin) Krimmel. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, as well as business school. After graduation, Betty enjoyed raising her children for many years. Once they were grown, she worked at Strawbridge and Clothier in the China Department for over 25 years. She was awarded for her excellence in customer service, where brides- to- be sought her expertise for their wedding registries. After retiring, Betty helped with her son’s business, Marhoover’s Carpet. Family was the center of Betty’s world. She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as her extended family in Illinois. She also treasured her beloved dog and constant companion, Bridget Marie.
Betty is survived by her children, David L. Buhrman, Deborah L. Hardos (Robert), Dianne L. Buhrman and Karen M. Buhrman; her grandchildren, Stephen Hardos (Jennifer Clark), Jeffrey Buhrman (Gina Papili), Bradley Hardos (Kalie Walrath) and Kaitlyn Buhrman; one great grandson, Wilder Lee; her sister in law, Agnes Galligan; her brother in law, Bill Buhrman (Pat); her former daughter in law, Deborah Newton; as well as her many nieces, nephews, extended family and her family furry friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her former husband, Lee J. Buhrman; her brother, Warren Galligan; her sisters, Doris Garrison and Marilyn Bradford and her niece, Judith Coy.
Family and friends may visit from 10 AM to 12 Noon on Friday, July 20 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE, where a Celebration of Betty’s Life will begin at 12 Noon. Interment will be private.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Delaware Hospice and Griswold Home Care for their loving support and care of their beloved mother.
