Edwin F. Knorr, Jr., 76, of Wilmington, Delaware and Estella, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away at Heartland Hospice House on Friday, November 23, 2018.
Ed was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania on April 11, 1942, son of the late Edwin and Mary (Minnich) Knorr. A graduate of Porter Tower High School, class of 1960, he was both class valedictorian and Senior class president. He married his high school sweetheart, Joan, and they eventually relocated to Wilmington, where he worked as an industrial engineer with General Motors. Ed graduated from General Motors Institute, and retired in 1996 after 36 years of faithful service. His first adventure after retirement was driving to Alaska, spending the summer with his sister, fishing and sightseeing throughout the state. As an avid outdoorsman, Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his mountain house in Estella, Sullivan County, PA. He was a life member and staunch supporter of the NRA. Ed also enjoyed watching sports and bi-weekly poker games with his friends. In his spare time, he was an avid reader with a collection of over a thousand books. He was a member of Hockessin United Methodist Church and was a past member of the church softball team.
Sadly, Ed was predeceased by his daughter, Cindy Knorr, and his sister, Karen Shoop, who both passed away in 2015.
Ed will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Joan (Schaeffer) Knorr; his son, Edwin III and wife, Maryellen; his grandsons, Matthew and Michael; his step-granddaughter, Sarah. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Darrell Shoop; many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Saturday, December 1 from 10:00-11:30AM, immediately followed by a funeral service.
Interment will be held privately on Monday, December 3 in Greenwood Cemetery, Tower City, Pennsylvania.
