Dorothy Mae Sanders

Ms. Dorothy Mae Sanders, age 80, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, February 11, 2017 surrounded by her family.

Ms. Sanders, the 8th of 11 children, was born in Jamestown, Kentucky on July 6, 1936, daughter of the late Elijah Stearns and Mary (Gilmore) Stearns.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a Manager of Food Services with Eurest, a division of Compass Group and Millcroft.  During her retirement, she was employed part-time with Comfort Keepers providing in-home living assistance to seniors.  Ms. Sanders was a member of St. John’s-Holy Angels parish.

Ms. Sanders is survived by her three children, Roxanne Carter of Newark, Mark (Connie) Sanders of Newark, Greg (Cynthia) Sanders of Flint Hill, VA; five grandsons, Sean (Tiffany) Carter, and Michael (Karen), Matthew, Nathan and Jonathan Sanders; and three great-grandchildren, Noah, Henley and Oliver.  Ms. Sanders is also survived by her brothers Donald, James, Herbert and Richard Stearns, and her sister Leila Evans.

The funeral service will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, , 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek Wilmington, DE on Friday, February 17th at 2:00 pm.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 pm.  Interment will be held privately for her family.
