Dorothy K. Lanyon

Dorothy K. Lanyon, 82, of Wilmington, DE and Pottstown, PA passed on Sunday, October 29, 2017 in Wilmington, DE surrounded by her family.

Dottie attended the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing and earned her RN. Later in her career she earned her BA from Wilmington University in New Castle, DE.

She worked as a registered nurse for 40+ years. Her career started as an Operating Room nurse at the Delaware Division in the late 1950's. During the 1970's she left the OR to work as a office nurse for two physicians in private practice. She chose to retire from her nursing career in the early 2000's after several years with national health insurance companies. After retirement, she worked for Happy Harry’s/Walgreens as a certified pharmacy technician well into her 70's.

Dottie loved to cook for her friends and family. Her volunteerism was devoted to The Food Bank of Delaware.

She is survived by her husband and best friend of 59 years, John, their three children, Susan Lanyon (Polikoff), Joseph Lanyon and Sandra L. Hicken, her son-in-law, Robin R. Hicken and granddaughters, Elizabeth and Stephanie Hicken.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 11 am-12 noon at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE, where a Celebration of life will begin at 12 noon. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to The Sunday Breakfast Mission, 110 Poplar St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
