Dorothy Elizabeth (Birdsall) Weaver, age 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 29, 2018, with her loving family at her side. In her own words, “The Lord gave me a good life.”
Born in Shickshinny, PA, daughter of the late Rev. Archabald and Effie (Van Lavender) Birdsall, Dorothy became very involved in her church at a young age. She was saved and accepted Christ as her personal savior in January of 1939 and dedicated her life to the Lord. She graduated from Bible Baptist Seminary (formerly of Johnson, NY, currently Clarks Summit, PA) in 1950.
Dorothy met and married Marlin Weaver in Shickshinny in 1953 and they settled in Wilmington, DE to start a family. In addition to raising her own children, Dorothy taught preschool and kindergarten for over 20 years at St. Phillips Lutheran Church. In joining Faith Baptist Church (Wilmington, DE) in 1964, she played an integral role in the founding and growth of the fledgling church which opened its doors the previous year.
Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband, Marlin; her sons, Michael Weaver, Alan Weaver (Patti), and Timothy Weaver (Janine); her eight grandchildren, Michelle Boyer (David), Nicole Madron (Shawn), Danielle Roberts, Laura Larks (Dante), Lynn Anker, Amanda Anker, Dr. Alan Weaver, Jr., and Seth Weaver; her 20 great-grandchildren, Keith, Kellie, Kaleena, Kevin, Kylen, Kaitlin, Kurtis, Katherine, Alec, Hunter, Braden, Kyra, Kayla, Kelissa, Dante, Jr., Kendra, Damien, Brooklyn, Cora, and Payton; and her great-great-grandson, Nathan.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers, Rev. Warren Birdsall and Rev. Clifford Birdsall.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Faith Baptist Church, 4210 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery immediately following the service.
